Bachelor of Science in Cyber Science – Toronto Metropolitan University, Toronto
Cybersecurity is now one of the most pressing issues facing governments, businesses, and communities. From protecting financial institutions to safeguarding personal data, the demand for professionals who understand both the technical and human dimensions of cybersecurity is rising rapidly.
Toronto Metropolitan University’s (TMU) new Bachelor of Science in Cyber Science responds directly to that demand. This program blends computer science, business, law, ethics, policy, and human behaviour to prepare students for the increasingly complex world of cyber threats and solutions.
What You’ll Study
TMU’s Cyber Science program offers a strong technical foundation while emphasizing the interdisciplinary skills required in today’s cybersecurity landscape. Students learn to:
- Write secure code
- Analyze vulnerabilities in systems and networks
- Apply cryptography
- Design secure digital environments
- Understand how technology interacts with society, business, and public policy
This interdisciplinary approach ensures graduates can communicate and collaborate across industries, an increasingly essential skill as cyber risks grow in scale and complexity.
Experiential Learning
Experiential learning is central to the program. Students can participate in:
- Optional paid co-op placements
- Labs and hands-on workshops
- Cybersecurity competitions
- Immersive training with faculty and industry partners
- Real-world simulations through the Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst
At the Catalyst, students participate in exercises that mirror real cyber threats, including running mock cyber attacks and learning how to defend against them. With more than 50 hours of immersive training, students graduate ready to apply their learning in professional settings.

Career Pathways
Cyber Science graduates will be prepared for a wide range of roles in both the public and private sectors, including:
- Cybersecurity analyst
- Digital forensics specialist
- Incident response specialist
- Privacy officer
- Security policy and compliance specialist
Students may also choose to continue their studies in programs such as Computer Science (MSc), Cybersecurity (MC), Law, or other graduate fields.
A New Approach to Cybersecurity Education
This program marks an important development in cybersecurity education in Canada. According to Randy Purse, Senior Advisor in Cybersecurity Training and Education at the Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst, the BSc in Cyber Science “creates more graduates who can ‘speak both tech and business’ and who can work comfortably alongside experts in social, legal, ethical, business and technological domains to help address…ongoing cybersecurity challenges as well as those we anticipate within the evolving technical landscape.”
Study Science in the Heart of Toronto
The Cyber Science degree is housed within TMU’s Faculty of Science, a hub of applied research and innovative learning located in downtown Toronto. Students join a collaborative scientific community and have access to academic opportunities that combine theory, research, and hands-on practice.
