This month, we sat down with Simone Dhingra, one of our writing coaches, to learn more about her role at Options.
Tell me a bit about your background.

I studied English Literature and Physiology at McGill University, a rare combination that shaped my interdisciplinary approach to communication and critical thinking. Through my studies and professional experiences, I developed a strong appreciation for the power of clear, thoughtful writing and the role it plays in helping students express their ideas with confidence.
I am passionate about mentoring and teaching students from all backgrounds. My approach is centred on meeting students where they are, understanding their goals, and helping them build the skills they need to get there. I have experience as a course teaching assistant at McGill University, where I supported classes of over 800 students. I have also worked with students in West Vancouver high schools, served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Undergraduate McGill Physiology Students, and partnered with underserved public schools in Montreal to teach youth academic workshops.
Across these roles, I have strengthened my commitment to helping students improve the clarity, organization, and impact of their writing while preserving their authentic voice. As a writing coach, I aim to provide feedback that balances honest critique with encouragement, helping students grow as writers and share their stories with confidence.
What makes you most excited about working at Options?
What excites me most about working at Options is the opportunity to work one-on-one with students and support them as they move toward their goals. I have always loved mentoring and teaching, and I find it incredibly meaningful to help students reach and recognize their own potential. Beyond the hard skills of writing, when I look back on important moments in my own life, I often think about the people whose guidance helped point me toward where I was meant to be. I hope to offer my students that same kind of support as they navigate their own journeys.
Who is your role model?
My mom. I have never met anyone who is able to balance so many responsibilities while still being fully present. She is generous, kind, and selfless. She follows her passions and is always enthusiastic about her next project. She emanates warmth and light, and people cannot help but gravitate toward her. I hope to carry those same qualities into my own life and have a similar positive impact on the people around me as she has had on me.
What’s your go to productivity trick?
My go-to productivity trick is the Pomodoro method. Whenever I need to sit down and complete a long task, breaking my work into shorter intervals makes the process feel much more manageable. The method usually involves 25 minutes of focused work followed by a 5-minute break. I find that Pomodoro makes it feel like I am working in short, achievable bursts while still getting a surprising amount done.
