Bachelor of Arts – Major in Popular Music Studies – University of Western Ontario (London, Ontario)
Have you ever dreamed of working as a singer, songwriter, or even music producer but not known where to begin? Western’s unique Bachelor of Arts (BA) major in Popular Music Studies is one of the few in Canada that prepares students for all three of these career paths, among others. The program takes a broad approach to the music industry, incorporating courses in performing and analyzing popular music, technical and recording skills, and the critical study of musical styles, performers, and genres within their broader historical and cultural contexts.
In addition to working at Western’s newly-opened and state-of-the-art studio recording space, students can incorporate their interests in business, psychology, the arts, and many other fields into their musical journeys. Graduates of the program have gone into successful careers as recording artists, songwriters, producers, mastering engineers, business affairs managers and more.
Students interested in applying will need to prepare a recorded audition, attend an interview, fill out a faculty questionnaire and provide letters of reference to complete their Western applications.
