Aviation – Bachelor of Business Administration – University of the Fraser Valley (UFV), Abbotsford, BC

UFV in Abbotsford, BC, offers a unique opportunity for high school grads interested in flying planes and being leaders in the aviation industry to work towards their pilots’ and Transport Canada licenses while studying the “business” of flying at the same time.

The program has been redesigned this year to offer students 30 academic credits upon completion of their private or commercial pilot licenses, with additional credits for any added ratings such as instrument rating, multi-engine, or flight instructor rating. Students complete the flight training courses either before, during, or after their academic business courses at UFV at a provider of their choice. The additional credits for this portion make it even easier to complete the full degree in less time.

In addition to flight training, the BBA program requires 30 academic courses, including general business management, economics, human resources, marketing, and finance courses, alongside specific courses targeting airline management, airport planning and management, and international air transportation. Students also have the option to add a business major, such as marketing or finance, to their degree or a minor from across the UFV program offerings.

The program also offers the option of an honours degree and/or co-op, though work as a pilot is not included in the co-op program. Looking ahead, graduates of this program will be ready to fly planes for corporate or charter flights before building up enough flight time to qualify for larger commercial carriers. In addition to filling the growing need for pilots across the globe, BBA program graduates will also be ready to work in airport administration or airline operations management.
