Looking for a new extra-curricular to put on your radar? Our Educational Consultants are here to help! We’re up-to-date on all the different extra-curricular activities students can participate in and can’t wait to share them with our clients. Check out our third extra-curricular feature below.
UBC Farm – Center for Sustainable Food Systems: Vancouver
The UBC Farm is the Center for Sustainable Food Systems’ main research, teaching, and learning space. It features crop fields, perennial hedgerows and orchards, pasture, Indigenous-led gardens, and forest stands. In addition, the farm is organically managed and cultivates over 200 varieties of fruits, vegetables, and herbs, while also housing honey beehives and egg-laying, open-pasture hens.

Adolescent volunteers can become Urban Farmers, helping to harvest and maintain the 60-acre farm. Volunteers will learn about sustainable farming while helping with the day-to-day operations of the farm (everything from harvesting to weeding and planting). In addition, youth volunteers can help with the UBC Farm Markets. Volunteers help the Market Crew behind the scenes in the produce and flower areas.
Volunteers must attend an orientation session before signing up for volunteer shifts. these are scheduled throughout the growing season and work to give an overview of the farm and volunteer opportunities. For more information or to register as a volunteer, check out the UBC Farm’s website here.
