PuMP PowerUp Mentorship Program: Remote
Many high school students are curious about future careers in medicine, life sciences, or healthcare but aren’t always sure where to begin. Prospective Medical Professionals (PuMP), a Canadian registered charity, offers accessible programming to help students build early awareness of these fields. Through workshops, career talks, and mentorship, PuMP introduces students to a range of academic and professional options in the health sciences.
What PuMP Offers
Founded in 2018, PuMP focuses on making reliable, relevant information available to youth across Canada. Its work centres on:
- Clarifying the pathways into medical and healthcare careers
- Providing learning experiences that are accessible to students from different backgrounds
- Sharing practical insights about post-secondary programs and industry roles
Students can explore different areas of the health sciences and connect with people who work or study in related disciplines.
About PowerUp
In partnership with STEM Fellowship, PuMP runs PowerUp, a free mentorship program designed for high school students considering life or health science programs. PowerUp connects students with current university mentors studying subjects such as:
- Life or health sciences
- Biomedical engineering
- Nursing
- Other health-focused undergraduate programs
Each mentee participates in a one-time virtual meeting. These conversations give students the chance to ask specific questions about programs, course expectations, transitioning to university, and the application process. The structure is simple, low-pressure, and designed to provide accurate, first-hand information.

Who Should Consider This Program
High school students:
Those exploring health-related fields and looking for reliable insight into university pathways may find PowerUp helpful. It’s an opportunity to speak directly with a student who has recently navigated admissions and early coursework.
University students:
Students currently enrolled in health or life science programs can volunteer as mentors. This role involves sharing personal academic experiences and offering practical advice to younger students.
Why It’s Worth a Look
For students considering future studies in health or life sciences, early exposure to program structures, admission expectations, and post-secondary environments can be valuable. PuMP and PowerUp offer structured, straightforward opportunities to learn more.
Students can find full details and registration information on PuMP’s website.
