University of King’s College Halifax – Photo Essay Contest: Virtual

King’s is once again hosting its annual photo essay contest for students in grades 11 and 12. This year’s theme is “showing a sense of place”. Students are asked to submit six to ten photos along with short captions that tell a story of what it’s like to be in a certain location. Students should also include a 100-300 word introduction that sets up the photo essays.

Participants are encouraged to tell a story with their photo essays, exploring a narrative for the viewers. Moreover, their work should capture a feeling of a place, helping their audience to understand what it’s like to live in that place.

The photo essay is due Friday, January 6th at 9 am AST and can be submitted as a Google Drive folder or attached in an email. There is also a free photojournalism workshop hosted by King’s on December 4th at 4 pm AST where interested students can learn how to shoot a photo essay. To learn more about the photo essay contest and photojournalism workshop, see sample photo essays, and get your submission form, check out King’s website here.
