Master Effective Communication with our English Essentials Series

Communicating effectively is one of the most important skills for success in school and in the work place, yet many students feel that mastery is out of their reach. Time and time again, our Writing Coaches hear students making the same complaints:

“My writing’s too vague!”

“Punctuation is confusing.”

“I’m having trouble creating a thesis statement.”

“I’m just not good at expressing my ideas.”

We’re here to help! Banish this confusion for good with English Essentials, a series of workshops designed to demystify the writing process, clarify the fundamental concepts of effective writing, and tackle the most prevalent writing issues. Each of the five interactive sessions – which run from February to June – will be devoted to a particular topic. Students can come to one or two workshops, or better yet, sign up for the whole series, as each session will build upon the others. The series will run at all three of our office locations so if students can’t make the session at their home office, they can attend the same session at another one of our office locations.

We’ll start the series with Punctuation 101. If you know all the comma rules, feel confident employing a semi-colon, know where to put apostrophes, and enjoy the occasional em dash, then bravo! If you’re a little unsure about the ins and outs of proper punctuation, join us as we discuss and practice using commas, semi-colons, colons, dashes, parentheses, apostrophes, hyphens, and periods. While they may look tiny, punctuation marks pack a lot of punch, allowing you to write more clearly and expressively. Mastering the punctuation fundamentals is your first step to better writing.
