How to Keep Studying for the SAT Interesting – Part 2

on

The SAT contains 19 sentence completion questions. Students are asked to select the correct word from a list to complete any blanks in a sentence. The key to doing well on this section is having a strong vocabulary base to pull from. A good amount of your SAT prep time should be designated to strengthening your vocabulary. In Part 1, we discussed how to spice up your SAT prep routine by using SAT-com. In Part 2 we’ll look into how FreeRice can be used as a fun SAT prep tool and to help fight hunger at the same time.

FreeRice is a non-profit website with two goals: providing education to everyone for free and helping to end world hunger by providing rice to impoverished people. To play the vocabulary game, visit their website. Once on their home page, you will be given a word and four possible definitions. Simply click on the definition you believe to be correct. Here is an example:

Motion means:

Pond

Movement

Forest

Dirt

The questions will progressively become more difficult as the game continues. Ten grains of rice will be donated to the UN World Food Program for every correct answer. FreeRice is a fun and philanthropic way to broaden your vocabulary base. For more information visit FreeRice.

We help you navigate the complex post-secondary selection process in Canada, the United States, the UK and abroad.

We construct progressive action plans for the future, based on each student’s individual strengths, values, and interests.
