Exciting News from the NCAA

on

The NCAA has some exciting news regarding recruitment for Division I sports. As of June 1st, they will be returning to their regular recruiting schedule; staff and coaches will be allowed to make and receive recruitment calls to prospective student-athletes. Division I Council is also permitting on-campus evaluations throughout June and July 2021, which will extend into the fall.

In addition to this development, the NCAA is altering its guidelines regarding standardized testing. The organization has announced that for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 school year, it will no longer be necessary for student-athletes who plan to compete in Division I or Division II sports to take a standardized test like the ACT or SAT.

Student-athletes should keep in mind that many scholarships still require an ACT or SAT score. Additionally, strong standardized test scores can help prove academic horsepower if a student’s grades are lukewarm.

Student-athletes applying to a Division I school will still be required to maintain a 2.3 grade average in 16 NCAA core courses. For those who will be attending a Division II school, a prerequisite for admission will be a 2.2 grade point average in the equivalent number of core courses.
