Campus Visit: King’s College London

on

In today’s blog, I wanted to share some information on King’s College London. I have visited the campus and facilities many times myself, and recently attended a webinar hosted by the International Admissions Team.

An introduction to King’s College

King’s College, established in 1829, is one of the oldest universities in England. But it has far more to offer than just its historical heritage. In 2021, King’s ranked 7th in the UK league tables and is currently 31st in the world. With a population of 33,000 students, of which 16,000 are international, King’s is known for being a diverse university that provides an excellent quality of education.

King’s College is part of the University of London, a group of the city’s best-known and highest-ranking universities and colleges. Being a member of the University of London has the fantastic benefit of shared facilities –- students from one university can access any buildings, resources and support across all 17 member institutions! This really helps during second year and beyond, when students live away from campus residences and are instead in shared student housing across the city. Knowing there’s a nearby library or student café makes being a student in a big city much easier.

Which courses are King’s well-known for?

Being a comprehensive university, King’s offers a huge range of courses across all disciplines but is most recognised for its humanities, science and law courses. Students with a love of politics can study a range of courses from political economy to war studies, which are taught by internationally recognised staff, many of who advise the UK government and are seconded to international organisations. Medical students are taught at three different campuses, each with an attached hospital: Guy’s, St. Thomas’, and King’s College Hospital, making the medical school the largest healthcare training facility in Europe. The Law School boasts many possible options for students to specialise in, one example being Law with North American Legal Studies, and is conveniently located near to the Royal Courts of Justice, the Law Society, and the Inns of Court.

Studying in Central London

King’s five campuses are located in central London, so students are spoilt for choice for things to see and do, whether they want to watch a famous West End show, walk along the Thames with friends, or go shopping on Oxford Street. London is consistently rated as the best city to be a student in, surpassing other global cities such as Paris and Montreal.

As a global university, students at King’s learn alongside classmates from across the world, from Spain to Malaysia to here in Vancouver! London has everything students need to feel represented and appreciated as an international student, hosting many different cultural attractions and events. But in case you want to spend your weekends exploring somewhere new, London is located in the perfect location for travel. Fly across Europe for cheap from one of London’s many airports. In less than 2.5 hours, you can be in Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona, Rome, and many other beautiful cities.

Anything else?

King’s has always been known as one of the best universities in the UK to be a student. It combines historic, beautiful buildings with world-class facilities, all within the very heart of London. Students who are interested in studying in the UK, particularly within a large city, should consider King’s as one of their choices.
