For Grade 12 Canadian high school students looking to apply to UBC in the fall of 2026 (or later), there were some BIG changes announced this week that could greatly impact course selection and applications.
New First Review Admissions Process
In previous years, Canadian students were able to apply for early admission to UBC by December 1st.
UBC is introducing First Review Admission. Starting September 2025, students studying in Canadian curriculum schools who apply to UBC will be evaluated in a new, more continual admissions process. Students can apply at any point after applications open in early October. Their application will be reviewed as soon as we have all the information needed to complete the assessment.
Since many of UBC’s programs are competitive and have limited space, not every student will receive an offer of admission after the first review of their application. When UBC cannot provide a decision upon first review, additional grade information will be requested, and a subsequent review will be completed sometime in March and April.
The December 1st deadline still remains for students hoping to be considered for Presidential Scholars Awards, UBC Centennial Scholars Entrance Awards, and UBC’s Beyond Tomorrow Scholars award. January 15th will still be the final due date for all applications to UBC. For more information about this process, check out this page.
