Here is what’s happening at Options Solutions this week:
Thursday, April 20th (South Granville)
Core test skills classes at Options Solutions allow students to prepare for the ACT and/or SAT exam(s) while also building essential academic skills. Students develop their abilities as active readers, learn fundamental grammar, and increase their understanding of essay structure. On-going classes prepare students for the ACT and/or SAT by teaching test structure and test-taking strategy. At the same time, students learn skills that translate into success at school in reading and writing.
Saturday, April 22nd (South Granville + West Vancouver)
The English 12 Provincial Exam is only a few months away and starting prep early is the key to mastering the exam. The exam is worth 40% of a student’s final English 12 mark, a mark which all universities use to calculate a student’s final admission average. Get a baseline score for the exam and start focusing your prep at the English 12 Mock Exam (+ debrief) session. Students complete a three-hour practice exam, followed by a two-hour debrief (at a later date) of the marked multiple choice and the essay questions.
Saturday, April 22nd (South Granville)
Our “Write Well Workshop” series is designed to offer students productive ways of thinking about their writing journey and exercises to ease them into the practice of writing and editing. The Essay Basics session will cover how to critically read an essay prompt, brainstorm effectively, and create an outline that works, i.e. makes the writing process easier and simpler. Since good writing begins with good thinking, this session will focus on approaching essays strategically, giving students the confidence to shape their ideas into powerful, persuasive pieces of writing.
