In this episode, Melinda has a laughter filled chat with Carleton University, Acadia University, and St. Jerome’s University (federated with the University of Waterloo). Join us as the panel shares their experiences as both Arts faculty graduates and now Arts faculty recruiters. This discussion explores Arts degrees in a fresh and significant way to help students and families gain a better understanding of the value of a degree from an arts undergraduate program, what skills are gained when pursuing a degree in the Arts, how to customize an Arts degree, and how an Arts degree leads to gainful and rewarding employment. 

Meet the guests

  • Stenley Phillipe

    Carleton student turned Undergraduate Recruitment Officer, Stenley Philippe, shares how to make the most out of campus life and university resources. Stenley encourages students to explore their surroundings while creating their own pace and going with the ebb and flow of their individual journeys. His central theme is to be proud of who you are. A lifelong member of the Carleton community, Stenley has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications with a minor in French, and a certificate in Translation Studies. He has held various positions in Carleton’s Undergraduate Recruitment Office, including his current role as EDI, Outreach and Recruitment Officer.

  • Serena Catania

    Serena started her career in higher education fresh out of undergrad, as a Contract Recruitment Officer, recruiting undergraduate students in Ontario High Schools, and has not left the industry since. Over the span of her career, Serena has held positions in recruitment, admissions, eventually managing a national recruitment and admissions portfolio, which launched her into her current role, as the University Registrar at St. Jerome’s University.

    Serena has a bachelor of Arts degree from Western University in Philosophy and Globalization Studies, a post-graduate diploma from Western University in Not for Profit Management, a Certificate in Leadership from the University of Waterloo, and is currently working on completing her Certificate in Catholic Leadership from St. Jerome’s University.

  • Sierra Pineo

    Sierra Pineo is the Team Lead and an Enrolment Advisor at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Since 2022, she’s been guiding students through the process of finding their academic path at Acadia. With a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Women’s and Gender Studies from Acadia, Sierra brings experience from roles in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, as well as management in the hospitality industry. She’s passionate about helping students make informed decisions and believes in the value of an Arts education for developing creativity and critical thinking.
