The Bachelor of Arts and Sciences (BASc) in Earth and Planetary Science Communication is the first of its kind in Canada, offering a cross-disciplinary education in Earth sciences and communication. The Earth and Planetary Science Communication program is a collaboration between Brock’s Departments of Earth Sciences, Geography and Tourism Studies, and Communication, Popular Culture and Film. The program features a dynamic curriculum that combines foundational knowledge in both Earth sciences and communication. Early years provide a broad understanding of topics like climate change, resource distribution, and space exploration, while later years focus on more specialized courses such as Citizen Science—a hands-on class where students work with communities to gather environmental data and tackle social issues. In Year 4, students will apply their knowledge through a capstone project, where they can explore creative ways to communicate science—whether through videos, social media campaigns, or documentaries.
Graduates of the program will be equipped with the skills to pursue careers in science communication across a range of industries. From government agencies and NGOs to environmental organizations and space exploration companies, the opportunities are vast.
