Happy New Year! As president and educational consultant Melinda likes to say, it’s the start of a brand-new year—new school year, that is. Time to shake the cobwebs out of your brain and out of your binders.
What we’re doing to help
To help high school students prepare for back to school, we are running our Back to School Study Skills Workshop this week to guide students through an analysis of their own organizational strengths and weaknesses. Each student will leave the session armed with an individualized plan to help them succeed. This intensive workshop will give students the practical knowledge they need to thrive in school this year.
Why take a study skills workshop now?
After a long summer, getting into the school groove can take time, but often students find themselves thrown into projects, quizzes, and tests within the first few weeks of school. It’s important in any grade to be prepared for an increased workload and have the skills to meet the challenges of the new school year. That’s why we think this is the perfect time to brush up on your organizational skills and even learn a new habit to help you tackle your school work more effectively.

Topics will include:
- Goal setting
- Organizational systems (both digital and physical)
- Creating a productive workspace
- Learning how to learn
- Effective note-taking (both digital and physical)
- Time management
- Strategies for managing procrastination
- Universal test/exam taking skills for various subjects
- Active reading techniques for better comprehension and retention
- How to study efficiently, save time, and do well academically
Please have your school notebooks, binders, and agenda easily accessible for the session.
Please note that this session is intended for high school students; if you’re going into university, check out this blog post to learn more about our uni-level study skills course.
This online workshop is happening this Saturday, September 10th from 9am-11am, and space is limited. Register today to secure your student a spot in this hands-on work session. Call us at 604-922-8456 or email us at info@optionssolutionsed.com.
