Getting Back on Track After Spring Break

on

We hope you had a lovely spring break! Whether you’ve spent the past week or two somewhere warm and tropical or stayed home and hung out, spring break offers some well-deserved time to sleep in, relax, see friends, and take care of yourself. Now that you’ve started classes again, we want to help you get back into the groove to make these upcoming months as productive and smooth as possible!

Set goals for the rest of the term

A fantastic way to plan for success is to set realistic and achievable goals for yourself over the upcoming months. Evaluate how you did in the beginning of the year: did you get your work done on time? Did you find yourself procrastinating? Did you participate in extra curricular activities? Understanding your previous habits and knowing where you currently stand in relation to where you want to be will make this process much easier.

Start by identifying a few SMART goals for yourself. These are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based. An example of a SMART goal might be to practice journaling for 15 minutes each day for one month to enhance your writing skills. This goal is specific (something too general might be “write something as often as I can”); measurable (i.e. you can identify when this goal has been met); attainable (15 minutes per day is quite reasonable, whereas one hour every day might not be); relevant (it pertains to your academic studies); and time-based (you need to complete this goal in one month). Creating SMART goals for yourself can provide you with more structure, a solidified action plan, and a sense of accomplishment once the goals have been achieved!

Stay ahead of the game

Getting back into your regular classes after a break can feel like a breeze since often you are starting with a blank slate! However, don’t let this weightless feeling entice you into procrastinating your projects and delaying your homework. Assignments will pile up quickly, and the best thing you can do for yourself is to get started on your work as early as you can. This will help you stay on top of your projects and avoid feeling overwhelmed later on. Plus, spare time is much more enjoyable when you know you’ve already finished your assignments!
