There’s no doubt that many universities require stellar grades from their applicants in order to be accepted. However, in recent years, it has become increasingly important to supplement those grades with a well-rounded extra-curricular life. Post-secondary schools want to see that students are not only nailing their academics, but also engaging in volunteer hours, work experience, sports, and more. Unfortunately, it can be tricky to balance these tasks while still keeping up with a heavy course load – but don’t worry, because today we’re discussing some tips and tricks to help you successfully juggle it all!
Tip #1: Get a Calendar – And Use It!
Having a calendar pinned up on your wall or sitting on your desk can be a great way to stay on top of your deadlines and commitments. Jot down your soccer practice times, what homework is due and when, your next English exam, and the date of the school musical auditions. Being able to see these moments ahead of time will help you plan out your days and stay on top of things!
Tip #2: Carve Out Time for Yourself
One of the most crucial ways to ensure you can juggle your busy life successfully is to carve out time for YOU. When you are working and studying nonstop, you can increase your stress levels, negatively affect your sleep cycle, and experience burnout. It is vital that you take care of your physical and mental well-being by ensuring that you take time for the things that make you happy. This might mean going for a small walk every day, hanging out with friends once a week, or cooking a meal for yourself (or the whole family!). Whatever it is that brings you joy, build it into your schedule.
Tip #3: Multitask
There are so many ways to combine your activities with your school work – and you can save yourself a lot of time by doing so! If you carpool or hitch a ride to your extracurricular activities, have your friends and family quiz you on the road. Memorize the periodic table or multiplication sets by repeating them every time you make your lunch for the next day. Listen to your recorded lectures while you walk home from school. Find ways to combine your tasks so that you’re not so stressed for time!
