Last night, Adam Winterton from Keele University spoke with several of our families about the UK admission process and Health Sciences programs in the UK, including Medicine, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Nursing and Midwifery.
Some highlights from his informative presentation:
- UK Medicine has NO CAP on international applicants starting Fall 2019. In previous years, only 8% of the seats in med programs were held for international students, but the cap has been lifted by the National Health Service.
- UK Bachelor of Physiotherapy (3 years) has been approved for equivalent qualification for practice with fully matched skill-sets and knowledge for students returning to Canada for licensing and certification. Graduates will need to still take a licensing certification exam in Canada. In Fall 2019, there will be shift to a 4-year Master of Physiotherapy at Keele.
- Admission requirements: 3 AP courses or 5 BC Grade 12 courses. Students with both will be evaluated based on a combination of those courses. For a particular subject, the higher mark from the AP vs the BC Grade 12 course will be used. To demonstrate academic rigour in your personal statement, it is worth mentioning that you “challenged yourself with AP (or IB) courses.”
- Applicants to both US & UK schools can use the Common App for applying to Keele and US universities. ACT/SAT scores will be required. Applicants to UK universities only are encouraged to apply via UCAS, where the ACT/SAT test is not required.
