Canadian University Event Recap

on

On Monday, September 18th, Options consultants attended the Canadian University Event for counsellors  to learn about changes and updates for fall 2024 – and there were many.

One of my favourite parts of each university’s update is learning about new programs. The programs are so diverse and interesting, leveraging the institutions’ visions and priorities.

Here are a few of my favourites for fall 2023:

University of Saskatchewan: Bachelor of Science in Food Industry Management and Certificate in Precision Agriculture

“The Bachelor of Science in Food Industry Management [B.Sc.(FIM)] degree meets the industry demand for graduates with interdisciplinary training in food science, agribusiness and marketing. Students in this program will learn advanced knowledge of food science, agri-food economics, food management practices, and food industry policy to prepare them for jobs in the booming agri-food sector.”

Thompson Rivers University: Bachelor Communication and Digital Journalism

“Embrace studies in public and strategic communication, media relations, media and technology, multimedia storytelling, digital journalism, visual communication, and digital design. With this degree, you will be ready to navigate flexible opportunities as a digital journalist, a public relations specialist, a media analyst or a content producer.”

University of Victoria: BSc. Climate Science program (with two concentrations: Impacts, Adaptations, and Mitigations or Physical Climate Science)

“Why is the Earth’s climate changing? Learn about the science of human-caused climate change and the science of climate solutions. Use programming, mapping and data science to better understand the impacts of climate change on communities. Learn how to communicate climate science to people making real-world decisions.”

Brock University: Bachelor of Engineering in Integrated Engineering – pending Ministry approval

“With a focus on flexibility and humanist thinking, Integrated Engineering combines a grounding in core engineering practices with the necessary interdisciplinary outlook to make a significant impact in the engineering fields of the future.”

University of New Brunswick: Bachelor of Health

“The Bachelor of Health is a four-year interdisciplinary degree program focused on all aspects of health. Students can major in 3 areas: Society and Health, Management and Health, and Biomedical Sciences and Health.”

University of Guelph: Bachelor of Creative Arts, Health and Wellness

“– As the first program of its kind in Canada, students will explore the artistic, psychological, and therapeutic components of the creative arts and their connection to healthcare and human wellness. Subject to Ministry approval.”

Mount Royal: Bachelor of Aviation Management

“The first of its kind in Alberta, students wanting to get into the degree program would not need to have their Private Pilots License. The program would offer one generalized major in aviation management, however at MRU the program would be offered under two different six-course concentrations. One concentration in flight-crew operations would include a commercial pilot and multi-engine instrument rating course to prepare students for a role as a pilot as well as other courses designed to prepare them for management opportunities in their flying careers.”

We help you navigate the complex post-secondary selection process in Canada, the United States, the UK and abroad.

We construct progressive action plans for the future, based on each student’s individual strengths, values, and interests.
