Arts Umbrella: Vancouver and Surrey, BC
Arts Umbrella is where young artists ages 2–22 cultivate their creativity in Dance, Theatre, and Art & Design. As a non-profit centre for arts education, they believe that art is powerful. Powerful enough to change kids’ lives in incredible ways. Arts Umbrella has three locations in Vancouver and Surrey, as well as donor-funded programs at schools, community centres, neighbourhood houses, and healthcare facilities across Metro Vancouver. They reach approximately 20,000 students every year, with nearly 75% participating at little to no cost.
School of Art and Design
At the Audain School of Art & Design, students learn how to develop ideas and reflect on the world around them. Arts Umbrella offers programs across a wide range of visual and media arts–ensuring that students first develop a strong foundation before moving on to more advanced techniques, no matter the age at which a young person first encounters their artistic practice.
School of Dance
The Lindsay Mearns School of Dance is a rigorous program designed for dancers ages 6-22. From the General Program to our Pre-Professional Training and Post-Secondary Programs, the excellence and innovation of Arts Umbrella Dance permeates everything they do.
At the leading edge of arts education, the Dance Program works with an incredible faculty of dance artists—instructors in ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance at the forefront of their fields.
School of Theatre, Music, and Film
Programs at the Robert M. Ledingham School of Theatre, Music & Film nurture young artists’ creativity and build skills that benefit them in performance and in everyday life. Students will see how musical harmonies foster teamwork, how learning to use their voice builds self-confidence, how imagination is freed when shown a new script, and how leadership is shaped in the director’s chair.
Arts Umbrella offers an incredible opportunity for students to develop their artistic talents while gaining valuable experiences. Whether you’re interested in visual arts, theatre, or dance, this extra-curricular provides a platform to grow and shine.
