Options Alumni: Georgina (Goje) Casey

on

We have so many stellar Options alumni, and in our new series, we wanted to shine a light on a few of our past clients who have gone on to do great things both near and far. This month, we chatted with Georgina about what she’s been up to since she graduated and her advice for current post-secondary students.

What’s your name?

My name is Georgina (Goje) Casey.

Where and what did you study?

I studied at the University of San Diego (USD) and obtained my degree in Environmental and Oceans Sciences with a minor in Architecture.

How did you choose this institution and program?

I chose to attend the University of San Diego because of their professor to student ratio, campus resources for the science and architecture departments, curriculum designed to educate a well-rounded student, and of course the beautiful campus and city!

Choosing my program was based on my passion for the environment. I wanted to learn more about my passion and be able to develop it into a career. USD provided me with a very thorough education through the rigorous research labs, classes, field trips, access to equipment, and amazing faculty members.

What would you tell current post-secondary students about finding a path?

Some advice I would pass along is that choosing the university you attend is a very big decision, but establishing your involvement with the university you attend is the most important. It is very important to engage with your university community as much as you can. This might include joining recreational or educational clubs, attending speaker series, campus events, presentations, and professor office hours. This is how you will network, which can assist you greatly in the future.

My high school self would be very surprised where I ended up! The University of San Diego allowed me to gain experiences that I thought were just a dream! From studying abroad in Australia to performing research in Turks and Caicos, I feel extremely lucky and proud to be where I am today.

What are you doing now?

Climate Resilience Collaborative Logo

I currently work at the University of Hawai’i with the Climate Resilience Collaborative research group. We focus on climate change research that is designed for the community of Hawai’i. I am working with a cross-disciplinary team of experts in various fields, such as physical and social science, community design, and policy. We all come together to better understand challenges related to climate change.

What at Options Solutions helped you the most?

The Options Solutions team was my biggest cheerleader throughout my entire college application process, as well as afterwards. Having this team that fully believed in me gave me the confidence to believe in myself and know that I could set dream goals and achieve them.

A fun fact about you?

My dog is in the tv shows Magnum PI on NBC and Doogie Kamealoha MD on Disney Plus.
