Next Week at Options: Calculus 12, Mastering the Essay, & Intro to Canadian Supplement Writing

Here’s what’s happening at Options Solutions next week:

Calculus 12

Calculus 12 is a required course for many science, engineering, and commerce programs across Canada. The Calculus 12 workshop provides an overview of functions, limits, and differential and integral calculus that allows students to approach the school year with confidence. Concepts in Calculus 12 can sometimes take a longer time to understand, so this boot camp allows students to avoid feeling overwhelmed at the start of the school year. The instructor works to explain the origins of calculus and to simplify the material, demonstrating its relationship to real-world topics. This boot camp will be held from Monday, August 30th – Friday, September 3rd.

Mastering the Essay

Want to brush up on your reading and writing skills before school starts? Options Solutions wants to help! This interactive, fast-paced workshop is aimed at providing students with the theory and practice to succeed in their English studies at the grade 10 to 12 level. It will give students the skills and confidence they need to succeed, making their future English courses easier and more enjoyable. Furthermore, active reading, planning, and essay writing skills are a great way to prepare for the Graduate Literacy Assessment (GLA), a new provincial exam for students in grades 10 and 12. This workshop will be held from Tuesday, August 31st – Thursday, September 2nd.

Intro to Canadian Supplement Writing

The session will include a presentation that outlines the typical essay and supplemental writing prompts required by major Canadian universities and programs (e.g. UBC, Queen’s, Western). During this presentation, session leaders will also provide writing and time management strategies and sample essays from previous years of successful applications. Students will then be given time to brainstorm and engage in practice writing exercises. Options Solutions writing coaches will give students one-on-one feedback on their drafts. This workshop will be held on Monday, August 30th from 10am-1pm.
