This month, we sat down with Kate Condon, one of our client care specialist, to learn more about her role at Options.
Tell me a bit about your background.
I grew up in North Vancouver and after deciding I couldn’t live without the rain, moved to the UK for university. At the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, I studied Theatre and Performance Technology. My specialized degree prepared me for a wide variety of work in the theatre and film industry, which I most enjoyed as a stage manager. Through this I learnt organization, problem solving, and collaboration skills. This year I am looking forward to returning to school, studying Library and Information Technology.
What makes you most excited about working at Options?
I am so excited to work with such a passionate and supportive team! I know firsthand the incredible value Options brings and I’m very proud to be able to play a small part supporting students for their futures.
Who is your role model?
While I wouldn’t say I have one specific role model, I feel so fortunate to have so many amazing women in my life to look up to. I have benefited so much from their strength, kindness, and wisdom.
What do you spend too much time doing?
Carrying books to/from my local library! I am lucky to have a branch close to my apartment and have a seemingly never-ending list of holds to work my way through.
If you could teach a university course, what would it be?
A technical theatre course for sure! With my degree I was able to not only advance as a stage manager, but work on set construction, lighting rigging and sound design (to name a few). I love the collaboration working in theatre and events brings, not to mention the adrenaline rush of having a live audience.
What is your favourite movie?
I think Little Women (2019) currently holds the title, although most movie musicals (like Moulin Rouge) would be in the running too.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
Having graduated from a university in Liverpool (home of the Beatles) I was lucky enough to have Paul McCartney give me my degree at graduation!
