Introducing Our New Grade 12 Group Sessions!

Fall is the busiest season at Options, and there is a significant wait to meet 1×1 with a consultant. We want to help you get going! To provide assistance and serve our grade 12 communities, we have created a customized group model. Join three of our most senior staff: Melinda Giampietro, Options president and founder; Monika Gay, an Options senior consultant; and/or Mono Brown, Options most senior writing coach. They will help you navigate through a series of group workshops to assist all of your needs during application season. You can pick and choose your sessions or do a full series.

Session One: Do you need help figuring out what you want to study?

This session is to help students identify their interests and potential field of study. We will start by exploring the types of degrees that exist. Then, we will sort through various specific post-secondary degrees. We will then look at how these degrees transfer to different career fields. Students will leave the session with a better understanding of what types of study options exist within a post-secondary environment.

Session Two: Do you know what you want to study, but need help creating a plan?

Do you know what you want to study but aren’t quite sure where to begin constructing a list of post-secondary institutions and what type of research you should be doing? This session is to help turn their ideas into a concrete application game plan. Students will be guided through a process to research programs and post-secondary institutions. We will discuss how to research how programs are alike and different and how to match programs to a student’s values. Students will leave with a concrete list of programs and institutions that they will consider applying to for fall 2022.

Session Three: Do you need help applying?

These sessions are designed for students who want assistance completing their Canadian post-secondary applications in a constructive and supportive environment. Our educational consultants will lead students through completing the application process step-by-step and answer any questions that arise along the way.

Session Four: Do you need help with the writing parts of your applications or scholarships?

We have two ways to help you here. Book 1×1 with an Options writing coach or join us for our Writing for Applications Workshop. Our Writing for Applications workshop allows students to work on the written portions of their US, UK, and Canadian applications (and scholarship applications, too!) in a constructive and supportive environment. Students are able to receive assistance in all parts of the writing process: brainstorming, drafting, editing, and finalizing their work. We accommodate students working on a variety of projects all in the same session, and our writing coaches work personally with students on their unique pieces.

Session Five and Six: Do you need help following up on your applications and reporting your grades?

Do you need help following up on your applications after you have applied? These sessions are for you. You will open university portals and learn how to upload and/or self-report your grades. This is an excellent maintenance session. Session five is for reporting mid-semester grades (or first term linear grades) and session six is for reporting the end of semester grades.
