Bachelor of Environment and Society (Environmental Sciences↗️ or Environmental Studies↗️) – Capilano University, North Vancouver
Capilano University has launched two new Bachelor’s degrees: the Bachelor of Environment and Society (Environmental Studies) and the Bachelor of Environment and Society (Environmental Sciences). These interdisciplinary degrees facilitate the study of environmental issues from varying disciplines. Students will have the chance to learn about issues through in-class learning, fieldwork, and community projects.
Depending on a student’s interest and career goals, they can choose either the environmental studies or environmental sciences pathway through these degrees. Students in both pathways will take common courses each year of their degree, and in upper years, students can pursue concentration in specialized modules, allowing them to explore topics such as Climate Change: Adaptation and Mitigation; Biodiversity and Conservation; and Urban Sustainability. Students will also have the opportunity to work with community partners in the field and participate in work-integrated learning opportunities to strengthen their ability to identify, address, and mitigate environmental challenges.
Students who graduate from these programs will have access to a diverse range of employment opportunities such as sustainable community and urban planning, conservation area planner, GIS mapping and spatial analysis specialist, climate change policy analyst, emergency preparedness planning, species at risk biologist, carbon/decarbonizing consultant, and ecological restoration planner.
