Bachelor of Community Development – Acadia University (Wolfville, Nova Scotia)
For students interested in building healthier, more equitable, and socially responsible communities and organizations, this program offers small classes, collaboration, and work experiences in both local and international settings. The program combines community development courses and business courses with many elective options allowing students to build a program that meets their needs and interests.
Students can choose to take a general approach to their degree or to focus on a specific area of study, including:
- Recreation Management – includes courses in kinesiology and economics of recreation and tourism
- Community Wellness – includes courses in psychology, kinesiology, nutrition, and health
- Outdoor and Adventure Education – includes courses in kinesiology, such as kayaking and canoe tripping
- Social Activism – includes courses in sociology, political science, and kinesiology
Honours and Co-op options are available as well as joint degree programs with Environment and Sustainability Studies or Psychology. Students in the fourth year of the program enjoy a unique learning schedule that involves participation in a local, national, or international community project. Graduates of the program go on to careers in recreation, teaching, law, social entrepreneurship, outdoor education, ecotourism, and more.
