Meet Our Team: Interview with Mikayla Voth, Office Manager

Mikayla VothThis month, we sat down with Mikayla Voth, one of our office managers, to learn more about her role at Options.

Tell us a little about yourself and your role at Options Solutions.

I am the office manager for Options Solutions South Granville. My main role is to keep up with correspondence from new and current clients, while managing the consultant schedules and keeping the office organized. Whenever possible, I try to work on ways to streamline processes and improve the customer experience.

What do you enjoy most about working at Options? What do you find is the most unique aspect of working at Options?

I enjoy working with the rest of the administrative team the most. We all have a lot on our plates, but support each other in any way that we can. It feels great knowing that there are other people who completely understand my job. The most unique aspect of my job is getting to see the challenges and successes of the students over the school year and getting to celebrate their accomplishments at the end of the year.

What is the value of engaging Options’ services? What does a “typical” appointment look like?

I think the greatest value in working with the team at Options is that no matter what project or goal you are focusing on, you will be learning lifelong skills that will remain with you long after you complete your tasks. A typical session really depends on the student – it could be focused strictly on university planning, or could be a conversation about how to structure your week to incorporate time for studying and extracurriculars. Many of the skills students learn here are developed over time, so I would encourage students to schedule in with their consultant and/or writing coach regularly to stay on track.

What’s been your biggest success or learning opportunity at Options?

This whole year has been one massive learning experience about the world of post-secondary education. I did not have any prior knowledge other than my own experience and I really had no idea what a minefield the process has become. I continue to learn new things about the post-secondary landscape including some really awesome schools and programs as well as the challenges that come with the application process.

What’s something people may not know about you?

Most people don’t know that I am actually quite introverted. You wouldn’t guess it since I chat away on the phone and email all day, but I actually prefer socializing in small groups or spending time alone with a good book or TV series.

We help you navigate the complex post-secondary selection process in Canada, the United States, the UK and abroad.

We construct progressive action plans for the future, based on each student’s individual strengths, values, and interests.
