SUMMARY:Writing for Applications
DESCRIPTION:These sessions aim to help students complete the supplemental writing portions of their post-secondary and scholarship applications. \nWriting Workshop allows students to work on the written portions of their US\, UK\, and Canadian applications (and scholarship applications\,\ntoo!) in an oversighted and productive environment. Students are able to receive assistance in all parts of the writing process: brainstorming\, drafting\, editing and finalizing their work. We accommodate students working on a variety of projects all in the same session\, and our writing coaches work personally with students on their unique pieces. \n\nStudents should have handy their list of universities and programs they are applying to for this session.\nIf you are in person\, please bring a laptop. All students need a Google account to access Google Drive and Google Classroom.\nDue to COVID protocol\, please plan to wear a mask and bring your own water bottle\, snacks and writing utensils.\nWe strongly encourage all students to attend an Intro to Canadian Supplement Writing Workshop before attending a Supplement Writing Workshop.\n\n

DESCRIPTION:These intensive sessions focus on helping students master the ACT or SAT exam. Topics will cover every portion of the test\, including test-taking strategies\, time management tips\, and crossover skills for the ACT/SAT exam. Materials will be provided. \nHow is test prep at Options different?  \nTest prep at Options is unique because it combines test preparation with the teaching of fundamental academic skills. With many years of experience\, Options instructors ensure that students understand the higher-level reading\, writing and math skills that will prepare them for the ACT and SAT but will also help them succeed in high school and beyond. Options doesn’t just teach “test-taking tricks” like other test prep organizations. Instead\, students receive a strong grounding in how the test works and strategies for attaining a high score\, combined with an opportunity to increase their overall academic performance. \nWhat do our students have to say? \n\n“I really liked that the instructor had everyone participate because it made it feel more like an actual class. I also liked they gave us lots of extra practice after the course was even finished.” \n\nCost: $450 for the week + applicable taxes; $150 per individual day + applicable taxes

SUMMARY:Essay Essentials Boot Camp
DESCRIPTION:This three-day boot camp is designed to give current grade 8\, 9\, and 10 students a solid understanding of English grammar\, writing conventions\, and essay basics\, so they can approach essay writing with the knowledge and skills necessary for success. Students will learn the essentials to writing expert argumentative essays\, which is the most common essay genre they will write in high school. \nThis session will be a great way to hone students’ writing skills. Furthermore\, the practice of active reading\, planning\, and essay writing is a great way to prepare for the Graduate Literacy Assessment (GLA)\, a new provincial exam for students in grades 10 and 12. \nThe boot camp will cover: \n\nActive reading\nEssay planning\nThesis construction\nUsage of evidence\nMLA citations\nTargeted editing
