The Preliminary SAT or PSAT is a test similar to the SAT that gives prospective applicants to US universities practical experience in applying critical reading, mathematical reasoning and writing skills on standardized tests. Typically taken by Grade 10 and 11 students, the test runs for 2 hours and 10 minutes and is broken down into five multiple choice sections: two critical reading sections, two math problem-solving sections and one writing skills section.
The tests dates for the 2012 PSAT are Wednesday, October 17 and Saturday, October 20. You can register for the PSAT at your high school or at another high school in your area.
Some things to know:
1) This test is administered by high schools, not through test centres, so ask your high school counsellor or principal about signing up and taking the test at your school.
2) Registration for the PSAT/NMSQT is not available online.
3) Each high school chooses only one October test date.
