On September 19, our first Writing Workshop of the year, Options’ students began the work of writing for university applications. As we guide you through this process, our goal is for you to submit fantastic essays and short answers to the universities of your dreams—but because we know you’ll have to write once you get there, we also want to do whatever we can to improve your writing skills.

Now that the back to school excitement has settled into routine, it is time for our clients to start filtering through their post-secondary options. In our office, October is academic value setting and research month for grade 12 Canadian bound students.

Early Decision vs. Early Action

With early deadlines hovering, it is important to consider the options carefully. Early decision is a binding agreement that requires a student to attend the university if accepted (unless they do not receive the financial aid they expect). Early action is non-binding and means a student applies early and hears early and is not bound to attend if accepted.

I have just returned from the annual National Association for College Admission Counselling conference in Baltimore, Maryland, and I am very excited to share what I have learned. I attend this conference every year in order to keep current of trends in post-secondary education.
